Harrow Appi, the first Harrow International School in Japan, held a ground-breaking ceremony on 27th June 2020. It symbolised that the School, which is situated at Appi Kogen, Hachimantai City of Iwate Prefecture, has commenced construction.
Construction of the new campus is scheduled to be completed in 2022. The school will open its door in September of the same year, welcoming students from all over the world who seek for top quality British education.
Mr. John Batting, Chairman of Governors of Harrow London; Mr. Daniel Chiu, Founder of AISL; and Dr. Rosanna Wong, Chair of AISL, sent their special messages and extended the best wishes for the success of the School. Mr. Takuya Tasso, Governor of Iwate Prefecture attended the ceremony along with nearly a hundred of distinguished guests and witnessed the inauguration of this landmark project in Appi, Japan.
Mr. Batting, on behalf of Harrow London, sent his best wishes for the safe and successful construction of this magnificent Harrow International School in Appi Kogen, and appreciated the incredible support from local parties.

The unique educational environment will enable students to achieve academic excellence and engage in extraordinary pursuits”, said Mr. Chiu.
Dr. Wong reinforced that, “Harrow Appi will be the first member school of Harrow International School in Japan. We are committed to providing a high-quality Harrow education, which inherited the 450-year traditions of Harrow London, to students from Japan and neighbouring countries.”
Adjacent to JR Appi Kogen Station, Harrow Appi covers an area of 10 sq. km which will be developed into Japan’s largest full boarding school targeting Year 7 to 13 students and offer a British-based curriculum. Projected student roll for the opening year is 540, with 920 at full capacity in future. The School is expected to complete its construction by January 2022 and open in September of the same year, recruiting 180 students at the first phase.
